I believe the distance is accurate,because you are covering the same distance but the calorie counter usually isn’t
The machine knows the distance the belt has moved, so it is probably within 5% plus or minus of being accurate.
Yes, there is a difference in the amount of effort you put into walking on the treadmill versus a flat sidewalk since the belt is moving. I’ve heard that a 1% incline on the treadmill is roughly equivalent to a level sidewalk.
The calorie counters are just a rough guess of course and will be inaccurate because it doesn’t know how in shape you happen to be.
