I’d go with an elliptical because has as much impact as walking, and is more quiet then a treadmill, also you can set different programs for forward and backward motion.

i really think the elliptical is all around a better machine. it allows you to not only set speed, but resistance. many have an uphill/downhill motion, and a heart monitor as well.
it’s also not hard on the ankle, knee and hip joints like a treadmill - and there’s less likelihood that you will be injured while on one.
it’s really difficult to give you a brand, because your buying power is determined by how much you wish to spend. however, this website lists many different styles in all price ranges - .
I’ve used a Horizon Fitness before and liked it, I do not prefer the BodyCraft styles (they seem kind of flimsy).
