Cross taining burns more calories because you are using more force to get you by rather than on the treadmill you have no wind force against you and you are running WITH a moving belt, instead of actually moving to get somewhere. But, you must go the same speed that you would both ways, otherwiser, of course, the number of calorie burned are different.

The cross trainer is better for burning calories faster. It also works more of your leg muscles. However, if training in intervals on an incline the treadmill can be beneficial; but can also place a strain on your knees. With all things being equal the cross-trainer is better on your knees, tones you easier, and burns more calories. I normally use the cross trainer for 30 minutes as part of my cardio, but I always finish with an easy 10 min walk on the treadmill.
